Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidising agent used in water treatment, food and beverage processes, cooling systems and selected wastewater applications. It is also commonly used alongside UV treatment in advanced oxidation processes, where UV light and hydrogen peroxide generate hydroxyl radicals, enhancing oxidation and disinfection performance.

 

In water and wastewater applications, hydrogen peroxide dosing may be used to support disinfection, odour control, sulphide destruction, organic oxidation and process improvement. Accurate monitoring is important because underdosing can reduce treatment performance, while overdosing can increase chemical cost and leave unwanted residuals.

 

Online hydrogen peroxide measurement is commonly performed using electrochemical or amperometric sensing methods, often with membrane-based selectivity, depending on the application and sample conditions.

 

PMA does not currently list a dedicated TriOS hydrogen peroxide sensor in its range. However, PMA can advise on suitable monitoring approaches for oxidant dosing, UV disinfection and water quality control. Depending on the process, relevant parameters may include UV254, SAC254, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, chlorine dioxide, free chlorine, total chlorine, pH and conductivity.
